About Linda- Founder of Fat Girl Magic

For as long as I can remember, I was a wallflower, not because I wanted to be, but because it felt safer that way. Growing up taller and bigger than the other kids made me a target. One memory stands out vividly: in fifth grade, a boy named Javier walked up to me, kicked me in the stomach, and called me “fat” and a “pig.” By then, bullying wasn’t new, but that moment changed how I moved through the world.

I wish I could say things got easier as I grew up. The truth is, bullies don’t just disappear. They find new ways to make an appearance. When I landed one of the most incredible jobs of my career in Midtown Manhattan, I was proud of the difference I was making. My boss, a powerful figure deeply connected in politics, fundraising, and celebrity circles, relied on me as his right hand and even as a friend. But behind closed doors, he reminded me daily that I wasn’t enough. He called me “fat,” “ugly,” and told me I was “too fat for New York.” Over time, those words chipped away at me until the weight of them nearly broke me. I reached a point where I tried to end my own life.

But in that darkest moment, something shifted. I realized that the word “fat” had haunted me for so long. What if I took away its power? What if, instead of shrinking from it, I embraced it? What if “fat” was simply a part of my story, not the measure of my worth?

That is when Fat Girl Magic was born, from the glitter, fairy dust, and unshakable spark that had always lived inside the little girl who just wanted to be seen. For too long, we have hidden our shine because the world told us we were not meant to sparkle.
